Overview of Shivapuri Peak Hike

The Shivapuri Hike starts from Panimuhan at the entry point of Shivapuri National Park. The trail runs inside the dense forest of Shivapuri Nagarjuna National Park. The hike includes gentle elevation up to Nagi Gumpa. Nagi Gumpa is one of the major attractions of this day tour. A 3-hour uphill walk from Nagi Gumba takes you to the Baghdwar. Baghdwar is a beautiful water spring where the Bagmati Rivers starts. The trail is the best hiking trail for a nature walk and bird-watching enthusiast. On a clear day, one might observe the spectacular panorama of the snow-capped Himalayas below the northern and eastern horizon.

At the top of the Shivapuri hill, there is a white statue of the legendary Shivapuri Baba. From the top, the trail connects another ridge of the hill to descend down. Comparatively, the descending trail is steeper and shorter. The trail ends at Paanimuhan to complete the encircling route of the Shivapuri hill day tour.

Budhanilakantha, a well-known temple, is located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, some 11 kilometers from the city center. Budhanilakantha is a massive and one-of-a-kind monolithic monument of Vishnu sleeping on the Shesh Shaya (snake bed). The statue dates from the Lichchhavi era in the 6-7th century. Budhanilakantha, on the other hand, is a Vishnu Temple that is jointly worshipped by Hindus of the Shaiva and Vaishnav sects as well as Buddhists. After seeing the Budhanilakantha shrine, we begin the Shivapuri Hike.

It is also revered as a Sleeping Buddha and is equally frequented by Buddhists. This excursion begins with a visit to Budhanilakantha and ends with a walk-up of Shivapuri Hill.
