Lumbini Cultural Sightseeing Tour - Detail Itinerary
01
Day 01 : Pickup from your place in Thamel, transfer to Domestic Aiport and Flight to Bhairawa and drive to Lumbini
In the morning, we will take a 35 min flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa, from where we will drive about 30 min to reach Lumbini. There, you will have a full day visit of this UNESCO World Heritage site, developed under a master plan in the area of 6 Km x 2 km. The tour starts from the New Tourist village and it takes us to the world Peace Pagoda and Museum. Since this is the religious sites, this is the pilgrimage concept of the master plan to introduce Buddhism and purify the mind through the monastic zone. We find many monasteries within there and the monasteries of Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism are spread across the canon. Finally, we will visit the Mayadevi temple which has protected the “Marker Stone” statue of the nativity scene for a long and protected the ruins of old temple walls. Another attraction of this tour is the Ashoka Pillar. It displays the inscriptions which provides the details about his visit to the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Day 02 : Drive to Kapilvastu and visit the archeological sites of Tilaurakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Niglihawa and Sagarhawa.
We will drive towards the religious and archaeological sites of Tilaurakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Niglihara, and Sagarhawa. Tilaurakot is an ancient Kapilavastu that is also known as the capital of Shakyas. This is the place where Buddha spent his first 29 years of life. Similarly, Kudan is an important place to visit in Lumbini and it was the place where Buddha was received by his father after his access to enlightenment. It was said that King Suddhodana built the Kudan (Nigrodharma Park), especially for the accommodation of Buddha and his followers. Likewise, Gotihawa is another place to visit in Lumbini. Gotihawa is the birthplace of Krakuchanda Buddha but Niglihawa is the place where Kanakmuni Buddha was born. Another religious site of Lumbini is Sagarhawa and it is the archaeological findings which are also called the “place of the massacre of the Shakya”.

Day 03 : Visit Devdaha-Ramgram and flight back to Kathmandu
We’ll drive to religious and archaeological sites at Devdaha and Ramagram. Devadaha is the capital city of the Koliya kingdom in ancient times and this is the maternal hometown of Queen Mayadevi (mother), Prajapati Gautami (Stepmother), and Princess Yasodhara (consort). This is the same place where Prince Siddhartha had spent his childhood. Likewise, Ramagram is another important site in Lumbini. It is the brick mound on the bank of the Jharahi River. It is a seven-meter high brick stupa consisting of relic (one of the eight astha dhatu) of Lord Buddha. The king of Ramagrama built that stupas and he was the eighth king to obtain the Buddhas’ relics.
