Overview of Rolwaling Trek

Rolwaling Trek lies in the west of the Khumbu region. This trek takes you to the beautiful mountain valleys in Nepal. The inhabitants of the valleys who are mostly Sherpas are residing in the Khumbu region call Rolwaling. The meaning of Rolwaling is  ‘the Grave’ for being buried down between steep ice giants.

Gauri Shankar (7,146m) right before their eyes.  Legend has it that a mysterious yet highly celebrated yeti once made Mount Gauri Shankar it’s home. However, several types of research and expeditions carried out to this mountain have been unsuccessful in finding the Yeti.

Trekking to Rolwaling usually starts with an eight-hour drive to Charikot from Kathmandu. It takes you along the path to Tashi Lapcha. You will require some technical mountaineering skills and equipment at this point. From Tashi Lapcha, you will continue the trek to Nepal’s largest glacier lake, Tsho Ropla. After this, you will head to the Khumbu region and finally reach Lukla from where you will fly back to Kathmandu. This trekking trail provides you with magnificent and jaw-dropping views of various mountains. This includes Mount Melungtse, Mount Dorje Lakpa, Mount Tashi Lapcha.     Rolwaling Trek - Detail Itinerary

    01

    Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport

    The representative of Oriental Journeys will be there at the airport to greet and receive you for your convenience. We will transfer you to the hotel. In the evening, we will provide you briefing about the trekking in detail.

    Day 02: A full day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, the capital city

    Today, we will take you for the whole day for sightseeing in Kathmandu valley in UNESCO world heritage sites including Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

    Day 03: Katmandu to Dolkha (1650m)

    Today, we will drive to Dolakah early in the morning. On the way, we will get a scenic view of hills and riverside. After 7 hours of driving, we reach Dolakha. Overnight stay at hotel.

    Day 04: Dolakha to Shigati (1020m).

    We start our trekking early in the morning. The trail is well defined and used by porters and shepherds. We will walk through scattered villages and terraces. Overnight stay at Shigati.

    Day 05: Shigati to Gongar (1350m).

    The trek continues from Shigati after having breakfast. We will be walking through Bhote Koshi River and pass fir Hamlets and villages. While walking through a forest, we will get a chance to see a Gauri Shankar Himal (7145m).

    Day 06: Gongar to Simigaon (2020m).

    Today, the path slowly gains altitude on an impressive slope. After this, we will cross terraces. At the evening, we will stay at Simagaon, a Sherpa village.

    Day 07: Simigaon to Donga (2800m).

    Today, we will be walking through gorgeous rhododendron forest. After this, the trail takes you steadily towards Gyalche. Then we descend back down to the river. Overnight stay at Donga.

    Day 08: Donga to Beding (3690m).

    The trek continues and we will gradually climb the valley with good mountain scenery. We will further visit the Ochre-colored Gompa, the largest valley in Beding. Overnight stay at Beding.

    Day 09: Beding to Na (4180m).

    We will walk shortly and reach at Na from Beding. In Na, we find a tiny hamlet inhabited during summer months and it provides a majestic view of impressive peaks with Chobutse (6685m) and Chugimago (6259m).

    Day 10: Na Acclimatization Day

    We will take rest in Na before trekking to Lapcha. We can trek to Yalung La pass for acclimatization. overnight stay at Na

    Day 11: Na to Nyiduk Kongma (4750m)

    The trek continues from Na and the trail takes us uo to a high lake named Tsho Rolpa ( 4540m) and up to the lateral moraines of the Rolwaling glaciers.

    Day 12: Nyiduk Kongma Drolumbau Glacier (5200m)

    Today, we will trek from Nyiduk Kongma to Drolumbau glacier. We need careful trekking.

    Day 13: Drolumbau Glacier to Tashi Lapsa Passes (5755m)

    The trail to Tashi Lapcha La goes through mountains with the foot slopes of Patchamo. We need to trek in a steep and a very rough boulder fields today.

    Day 14: Camp to Thame (3800m)

    Today, cross river through ancient rhododendron, oak and pine forests interspersed with terraced fields. Overnigh stay in Camp in Thame.

    Day 15: Thame to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

    We will trek down from Thame to Namche Bazaar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

    Day 16: Namche bazaar to Lukla (2,850m)

    The trekking from Namche bazaar to Lukla is the hardest stage of the enitre trek. The trail descends over the ridge past rocky cliffs and scattered pines to the tiny village of Toktok. During the trek, we will get lush green scenary, incredible mountain scenary and local sherpa village. After reaching at Lukla, you will have time to stroll around the local areas.

    Day 17: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

    We will have a scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. We say goodbye to our porters and enjoy an hour exciting flight to Lukla. Sometimes, we need to wait for the flight due to bad weather condition which make the Lukla flight delayed and canceled.

    Day 18: Free day in Kathmandu

    Today, we have a free day in Kathmandu. You can do shopping and enjoy the local streets in this free day. Furthermore, you can have a relaxing walk over the streets and view the normal living of Nepalese. You can buy some gifts and souvenir as well as a token of love to your home.

    Day 19: Final Departure

    We will drop you at the airport with warm regards and memories. You will be departed to you final destination.
