Overview of Tilicho Lake Trekking

Tilicho Lake Trekking is an adventure travel package of Oriental Journeys to the world’s highest Lake. This beautiful lake is located in the Manang district of Nepal. The Annapurna mountain ranges preserve this beautiful Tilicho Lake at an altitude of 4,919 m above sea level. Many snow-capped mountains in the surrounding of the lake have added extra beauty to its scenery. Therefore, the trekkers feel that visiting the worlds’ highest lake trek is a heavenly experience on the earth. It further offers mesmerizing mountain views and scenarios from its backdrop.

Tilicho Lake Trekking

The Tilicho Lake trekking starts from Besishahar which is the district headquarter of Lamjung district.  This trek offers you an experience of the Annapurna circuit trek since it combines with the Annapurna circuit trek. Every year, more than thousands of trekkers follow this route. Due to this, the route has become famous for both treks. Therefore, the route and itineraries will be more or less similar for both treks. Since both itineraries follow the same trails from Beshisahar to Khangsar village, one needs to cross Khangsar village in order to reach Tilicho Lake. Khangsar village is the leaving point for the Tilicho lake and Annapurna base camp trek. One needs to plan to experience the trip along with the great beauty of the Himalayas and the local lifestyle.

Meals

You can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well as international cuisine including Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.  You will get breakfast and dinner from the teahouse or lodge where we spend the nights whereas lunch will be provided on the way to the next destination. The full board meal (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) will be provided during the trekking while breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. In addition to this, there will be either a welcome or farewell dinner from the company.

Fitness to Tilicho Lake Trekking

Since this is a short and easy trek, it has become an ideal choice for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk for around 4-5 hours a day.  Therefore, regular exercising and jogging for a few weeks prior to trekking would help you in enhancing your strength and stability. If you have past hiking or trekking experience, that would be an asset for the trek. Since the trek is less challenging in nature, it does not require any technical skills. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as lungs, hearts, and blood diseases should consult the doctor before the trip for safety purposes.

Tilicho Lake Trekking - Accommodation

During the Tilicho Lake Trekking, You will be accommodated in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara. During the trek, we will be staying at teahouses (lodge) with basic facilities. Thamel Eco Resort, Samsara Resort or Hotel Thamel or similar standard hotel in Kathmandu and Kuti resort in Pokhara. All the accommodation bases twin-sharing B/B package. However, a single supplement is available on a request for which you need to pay an extra cost for the single supplement.  Oriental Journeys books the best available tea-houses during the trek however, the tea houses are with basic facilities. Therefore, sometimes it might be difficult to get a single room during peak trekking season.

    Tilicho Lake Trekking - Detail Itinerary

    01

    Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu

    You will be warmly welcome in the Tribhuvan International Airport by the representative of Oriental Journeys. After you transfer to the hotel, we will provide you the detailed itinerary and trek planning. Then we will take you to the Nepali cultural restaurants for a welcome dinner. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

    Day 02 : Kathmandu valley sightseeing

    After breakfast, an experienced tour guide will receive you in the hotel for Kathmandu valley sightseeing. You will visit world heritage sites including Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath stupa, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu durbar square, and explore the culture, art, and history of Nepal from Medieval time.  Seeing Living Goddess of Nepal –Kumari is another attraction of the sightseeing. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

    Day 03 : Kathmandu to Besishahar and Beshishara to Jagat

    We will pick up you from the hotel early in the morning and drive you to Besisahar. It takes 7 hours to reach Beshisahar. You will again drive to Jagat in a local vehicle. Overnight stay at the teahouse in Jagat.

    Day 04 : Jagat to Bagarchhap

    The early morning trekking is scheduled at Bagarchhap. You need to cross the suspension bridge via the Kaligandaki riverside. After this, we will reach Taal, an entrance to the Manang district which offers you splendid views of the waterfalls. The trek is scheduled to end at Bagarchhap today and you need to hike via Dharapani to reach Bagarchhap. Overnight stay at teahouse/lodge.

    Day 05 : Bagarchhap to Chame (2710m) - 6-7 hrs

    The trek takes you towards the spectacular views of Mt. Manaslu after climbing uphill along with the ways of rhododendron and fire forests. We need to walk sometimes in the steep forested ridges with some landslides on this day. Then at the end of the day, we will reach Chame, the headquarter of the Manang district. Chame welcomes you with the remarkable views of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal. Overnight stay at tea houses run by migrated Tibetan people.

    Day 06 : Chame to Pisang (3190m) - 5-6 hrs

    Today, we will be passing deep and steep trekking trails, narrow valleys, and also cross a couple of suspension bridges. After this, we start climbing uphill
    into the beautiful pine forests. We will have lunch at Dhukur Pokhari and trek for an hour in the flat green mountain valley. Overnight at lodge in Pisang.

    Day 07 : Pisang to Manang (3450m) 5-6 hrs

    There is an alternative trekking route from Pisang to Mugi and trekking from Lower Pisang is a comparatively shorter and easier one. We will take you to the trekking towards the mountain valley via some pine trees. In addition to this, you can see the living standard of mountain people from Braga and Ngawol ancient village. Overnight stay at teahouse in Manang.

    Day 08 : Manang to Khangshar village ( 3734m)

    The trek continues towards Tilicho lake after crossing the western gate. The trails to Tilicho is separated from Thorong La Pass. The trail moves ahead towards Khangsar village after crossing the suspension bridge. Khangsar village is the last village in this region. Overnight stay at teahouse in Khangsar village.

    Day 09 : Khangsar to Tilicho Lake Base Camp (4150m)

    The trekking starts early in the morning after having breakfast. There is a windy and rock falling trail after twelve O’clock. We arrive at the base camp and overnight stay at the lodge/teahouse trek.

    Day 10 : Trek to Tilicho Lake (4949m) and back to base camp

    The trekking starts towards an uphill climb but after sometimes you will get easier routes. Sometimes, it becomes hard to climb because of high elevation. From there, you will see the mountains from every direction as the trekking moves towards climbing to Tilicho Lake. Since the lake is located at the highest elevation, one needs to climb up to get to the lake. The trail offers you an amazing view of mountains and desert land. After encountering the mesmerizing view of Tilicho lake, you will get back to the Tilcho Lake base camp from the same route. Overnight stay at a small lodge.

    Day 11 : Base camp to Yak Kharka (4020m

    The trekking routes follow the same trail from the Tilicho Base camp. Then we leave the Khangsar trails and catch another trail to Yak Kharka. The views of Khangsar village and the view of the mountains are the main attractions of the trek. There is a possibility to see blue sheep in this area as well. The trek ends at Yak Kharka. Overnight stay at teahouse/lodge in Yak Kharka.

    Day 12 : Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi - 4-5 hrs

    Today, the treks start through some steep and sheer trails up and downhill. We cross the wooden bridge and steep climb. For acclimatization, people use to climb the high camp and come down for the night.

    Day 13 : Thorong Phedi to Throng La Passes (5416m) then to Muktinath

    The trek is quite dangerous today but we will assure you that you will be fully secured from the company. We need to wake up at 3:30 am and get ready for breakfast. At this time, you will climb up straight to the high camp with the help of a headlight in the dark. It gives you a very unique and interesting experience in trekking. Early trekking is usually done to avoids the big winds, therefore, it is better to arrive at the top before 10 O’clock. We carry some packed lunch while going to Throng La Pass. Then we came back to Muktinath.

    Day 14 : Muktinath to Jomsom

    Today, the morning offers you beautiful and spectacular views of the seventh highest mountain in the world- Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and many more with beautiful landscapes. When we descend back, we will get an opportunity to explore 700 and 500 years old monasteries at Jharkot and Kagbeni, the gateway of upper mustang. The trail catches the Kaligandaki river and we have to face wind till to Jomsom.

    Day 15 : Jomsom to Pokhara by flight

    After having breakfast in Jomsom, we will have 25 minutes flight to Pokhara. Pokhara is the second biggest city in Nepal and we can see the views of the beautiful mountains of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Lamjung mountains. In addition to this, you will get sightseeing views in Pokhara in Davis falls, Fewa lake, Gupteswor Cave, Tibetan Refugee camp. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Pokhara.

    Day 16 : Pokhara to Kathmandu by Tourist Bus- 6 hrs drive

    We will drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara after having breakfast. It takes 6 to 7 hours to reach Kathmandu. The lunch is provided on the way. You will have free time in Kathmandu for shopping. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

    Day 17 : Final Departure

    It’s the last day of your stay in Nepal. Depending on your flight schedule, you can utilize your time for shopping and sightseeing in Kathmandu. We will drop you at the airport, before 3 hours of your scheduled flight. We are hoping to meet you again for the next trip to Nepal with us.
