Reaching the trailhead

On the first day of your trip, you will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. It is a 6-7 hours drive in a comfortable tourist coach. The next day a private vehicle drops you at Tikhedhunga after a drive of 3 hours. The real hiking starts at Tikhedhunga.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill includes accommodation at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara serve breakfast with twin sharing beds. Since, it is a teahouse trekking. There are lodge accommodation in teahouse lodges during your trek days. The teahouse lodges have basic facilities with a clean room and kitchen. The rooms are generally twin sharing with a common bathroom. They provide hot water for shower on demand but may charge a minimum extra amount. Lodges have electricity at the lower parts of the trail whereas the lodges in higher altitudes use solar power.

    Day 1: Greetings at Kathmandu Airport

    Today is your arrival day. After your arrival at Tribhuvan   International Airport, one of our representatives from Oriental Journeys will come to receive it. Then we will drive to the hotel and have a briefing of your trekking program. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

    Meal Plan: Welcome Dinner

    Day 2: Flight or Drive to Pokhara, take a 25 minutes flight or 6-7 hour drive to Pokhara.

    This day we will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Pokhara – the city of lakes in an amazing place to visit. After we reach there and if we still have time then we will explore the lakeside and the local market of Pokhara. Furthermore, we can also visit David Falls if we have enough time. Overnight stay at Pokhara in a 3-star hotel.

    Day 3: Drive from Pokhara and Trek to Tikhedhunga (1540m): walking distance 5 hours, 540 meters ascent - 9.6 km

    The journey starts with about 3.5 hours of drive from Pokhara through a large village Lumle brings you to Nayapul. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek starts from Nayapul. At first, we will be going down on a staircase and then traversing high above the river on a wide stone-paved trail to the largest town Birethanti (1000m). The trail follows the winding bamboo forests and waterfalls and once you follow the trail, you will reach a small village called Sudami and we will have lunch there. Then we climb steadily up the side of the valley to reach Hille (1510m) and after a short walking, you will arrive at Tikhedhunga. Overnight stay at Guesthouse.

    Day 4: Trek Tikhedunga to Ghorepani (2775m) : walking distance 5-6 hours 1360 meters ascent - 9.4 km

    On the second day, the trail crosses the Tikhedhunga River on a suspension bridge then we trek down and cross the Bhurungdi Khola on a large bridge at 1520m. After this, the trail ascends on a stone staircase and it has more than 3300 steps in total. The staircase continues to the large Magar village of Ulleri (2800m). The trails softly climbs up through pastures and cultivated fields from Ulleri. This trail takes you to the refreshing Oak and Rhodendron forest. Then, it takes you to the trail which crosses two sparkling clear water streams along with a small ridge before making a short climb to Nangathanti (2460m). We will have lunch at Nagathanti. You will reach our destination -Ghorepani (2750m) after an hour’s walk from Nangathhanti.

    Day 5: Hike Ghorepani to Poon Hill and Tadapani (2540m) : walking distance to Tadapani 5-6 hours, 550 meters descent 710 meters ascent

    Today, we need to wake before dawn to make the early morning excursion to Poon Hill ( 3210m). Poon Hill is one of the best Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal. It provides a mesmerizing view of the sunrise over the high Himalayas. You will be enchanted with the beauties of the spectacular panoramic stretches from Dhaulagiri I (8167m) and Tukuche (6920m) to Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091m), Hiuchhuli (6441m), and Tarke Kang (7193m). Gangapurna (7454m), Lamjung Himal (6986m) and the Mt. Fishtail and (Machhapuchhre 6997m). Your eyes are never tired of seeing this beauty and your brain always instructs you to stay for longer there. In addition to this, sunrise over the Himalayas provides you lots of pleasure and tranquility. After Breakfast, our trek to Tadapani starts. We will be doing a short morning climb to the Deurali pass for a spectacular panorama over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. After watching the beautiful panoramic views, we follow the steeply descending trails through the dense and moss-covered forest with bird watching. Tadapani offers you close-up views of the sunset.

    Day 6: Trek Tadapani to Chhomrong (2040m) : walking distance 3-5 hours,780 meters descent and 240 meters ascent - 9.8 km

    Today we will descend downwards.  The beautiful pathway leads us to the uphills of Ghandruk. The precipitous pathway leads us to the Kimron Khola. With the pleasing sight of the river, we continue to trek towards Chomrong. Chomrong is the village that lies on the pathway which leads us to Annapurna Sanctuary. Furthermore, you will feel blessed to watch the marvelous views of Annapurna mountain from the ethnic Gurung village of Chomrong.

    Day 7: Trek Chhomrong to Dovan (2540m): walking distance 4-5 hours, 740 meters ascent and 510 meters descent - 8km

    The morning after having our breakfast we will continue our journey from Chomrong. You will be amazed to see the thrilling rocky pathway. Furthermore, you have to be aware of the bees and wasps that are in the rocky trails. Then we will reach Sinuwa. You will be delighted to walk across the steep but awesome long staircase. Besides this, you will be pleased to walk along with the dense Bamboo forests. We will stay overnight at the lodge.

    Day 8: Trek Dovan to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3700m): walking distance 5-6 hours, 1260 meters ascent - 8.5 km

    The marvelous trek along the amazing forest of the bamboo, oak and rhododendron trees will amaze you. We will ascend through the forest and reach the incredible Dovan. Furthermore, we will trek along the continuously and eye-catching river. Then we will trek to Deurali through the mucky pathway.

    Day 9: Trek Machhapuchhare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) : walking distance 2-3 hours, 430 meters ascent - 3 km

    We will continue to trek from Machhapuchhre Base Camp to  Annapurna Base Camp. You will be overwhelmed to see the mesmerizing views of the majestic mountain peaks like Mount Hiunchuli (6441m), Annapurna South (7229m), Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna III (7555m), Gangapurna (7454m), and Fish Tail or Machhapuchhare  (6997m). This will be a lifelong memory for you. We will take the pictures here and have fun around. We will spend our night at the nearby lodge.

    Day 10: Trek Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2340m) : walking distance - 12.7 km

    Today we will observe the sunrise views from the basecamp. You will be mesmerized to see the Himalayas turning golden as the sun rays touch the snow-capped mountains. After that, we will descend downwards from basecamp to the Bamboo lodge. We will stay overnight at the lodge.

    Day 11: Trek Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1750m) : walking distance - 8.5 km

    Though we are returning our way back, there are still numerous things that await us. We will trek downhills from Bamboo. The pathway is marvelous with the amazing sight of the lush bamboo and oak forest. You will be astonished to see the varieties of the rhododendron trees on the pathway and beautifully blooming during the season.  Then we will trek down to the easy trails of Sinuwa which further leads us to the ethnic Gurung village of Chomrong. From here we will descend downhill with the amazing staircase of Chomrong and reach the stunning Jhinu Danda. It is a well-known place for hot water springs. You can have a relaxing session of the hot water bath in the springs of Jhinu Danda. We will spend our night in Jhinu Danda.

    Day 12: Trek Jhinu Hot Spring to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara, 6 hrs trek, 1 hour 30 minute drive. - 13.5 km

    After our breakfast, we will trek down from Jhinu Danda to Nayapul – the starting and the ending point of our trek. The beautiful and mesmerizing pathways will amaze you with the suspension bridges and the greenery of the lush forests. Moreover, we will reach Nayapul along these marvelous pathways. From Nayapul, we will drive back to Pokhara. You can still roam around and explore the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. Overnight stay at 3-star in Pokhara.

    Day 13: Drive Pokhara to Kathmandu, Take a 25 minutes flight or 6/7 hour Drive.

    We will drive back to Kathmandu today from Pokhara. You will feel more delighted when you see the fiercely flowing Trishuli river on the way back to Kathmandu. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

    Day 14: Fly Home

    It is the day to fly back home. Today you will fly back to your native place from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. One of our representatives from Oriental Journeys will escort you to the airport from the hotel before three hours of your scheduled flight. We are hopeful to serve you again on the next trip to Nepal.
