You may spend your last minutes in Kathmandu with breakfast and souvenir shopping, since you have arranged your departure from Kathmandu for today. The most convenient method to get to Chitwan National Park is to fly from Kathmandu to Bharatpur and then drive. Aside from that, there is a tourist bus/AC bus from Kathmandu that takes around 6-7 hours. Around 7 a.m., buses depart from Nayabazar, near Thamel in Kathmandu. Tourist buses depart at 6.30 a.m. from the tourist bus terminal in Pokhara and take 7 hours. Similarly, for a more pleasant journey, hire a private vehicle.

The approximate distance between Pokhara and Chitwan is 147 km and can be reached in a 5 to 6-hour drive.

The activities other than the Elephant back Safari, are carried inside the Chitwan National Park. Elephant Back Safari is done in Community Forest near Sauraha.

Definitely, you will have a child discount offer. The child below four years are freely allowed to enter whereas below 10, need to pay 70% of the Adult Price. The child above 10 years has to pay the full fee.

The exact time for a drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan is just 5 hours but due to highway traffic it will take approximately 6-7 hours. In normal condition, the Tourist Bus from Pokhara will take you to Chitwan in around 5-6 hours.

Traveling by road in Nepal is safe, especially by tourist coach is completely safe. However, we suggest that you take a Private Vehicle for a more reliable and convenient journey.

We do have a pickup service for the traveler traveling by bus. One of a representative from Oriental Journeys comes to pick-up at Sauraha Bus Station for FREE. The same way, we have dropped off the facility up to the Bus station at Sauraha.

Chitwan National Park is located in the Chitwan district. Sauraha is a small village and tourist hub near the national Park where most of the hotels/resorts are located. The Bus from Pokhara and Kathmandu drop travelers in the Sauraha bus stand.

Especially, the travelers visiting Chitwan National Park during the months of Summer can see and enjoy Elephant Bath. However, during monsoon and winter, you can not participate due to cold water and a high level of water in the river.

The best way of enjoying the wildlife of Chitwan National Park is through Jeep Safari. The Jeep Safaris in Chitwan National Park are conducted from the 1st week of October till the end of June. However, Jeep Safari in Bishajari Taal (20,000 Lake) is possible throughout a year.

Depending upon your budget, the different standards of Hotels and resorts are available in Sauraha area of Chitwan National Park. Normally, the lodge provides meals in a buffet with a variety. If there are minimum guests they have to serve then you can choose from the menu also. The menu has always a choice of American, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Nepali food.

People visit Chitwan throughout the year. However, February to Mid June and September to December are the best time to go for Chitwan Jungle Safari. Compared to Kathmandu and Pokhara, Chitwan lies at a lower altitude with a warm temperature during the wintertime.

Since the national park lies at a lower elevation, it is a bit warmer than Kathmandu and Pokhara. But, the region is colder during the winter months (December – February). It is generally misty with much humid air.

The lodges in Sauraha and Chitwan area are equipped with electricity facilities. You can easily get them recharged. We advise to bring a charger and adapter with. You can easily buy one in local shops to fit your gadgets.
