Overview of Tsum Valley Trek

Tsum Valley Trek is the most secluded Himalayan Valleys’ trip to Nepal. The valley was out of touch till 2008. The government of Nepal announced the region as an open touristic destination only in 2008 for foreign tourists. Before that, the region was a restricted zone. Tsum Valley trekking trail takes you into the majestic surrounding of the Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), Sringi Himal (7,187 m), Buddha Himal (6,672 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m). Since the region has been a part of Tibetan civilization that resembles Tibet, the residents of the valley are Tsumbas belong to Tibetan origin. They have a distinct form of dialect, art, culture, and religion.

 Highlights of Tsum Valley Trek

  • Reflect a Unique and Pristine Tibetan culture
  • Enjoy the wonderful hospitality of local ethnic communities
  • Get the view of fabulous mountains and attractive waterfalls
  • Explore Piren Phu (scared cave) during the trek
  • Admire wonderful scenes and unique lifestyle

The mysterious valley has unique attractions however, very few numbers of tourists have visited the valley. Tsum Valley used to be an important trans-Himalayan trade route between Nepal and Tibet. Comparatively, the area is still less exposed to visitors than other tourist destinations of Nepal. So, it offers virgin and less beaten paths and unique culture.

Tsum Valley Trekking Map

Tsum Valley Manaslu Trek Map

The trekking route follows Budhi Gandaki which is one of the major tributaries of the Sapta Gandaki river. The trekking trail goes through a mixed dense forest, terraced fields, and hill settlements. Similarly, the trail separates from the main Manaslu trekking route and enters a hidden valley experiencing the alpine forest, glacial rivers warm hospitality of local ethnic communities. Besides this, Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, Dephyudongma Gompa are other attractions of this trek. The highest altitude of the Tsum valley trekking route is 3700m at Mu Gompa and you must be careful about the high altitude sickness while going on this hike. Since this is the off-the-beaten-path trek, it is purely natural and untouched by modernism. Hence, the traveler gets the real taste of trekking in the Tsum valley.

Best season

Due to the monsoon, the trail is tricky and risky from Mid June to August. Hence, we do not recommend travelers to visit the region during these months. Likewise, January to February is extremely cold with thick hazes and it is further riskier to trek in Tsum valley during the month. Therefore, We recommend visiting the area during spring (March to May) and autumn season (September to November). These two seasons are ideal seasons for the Tsum valley trekking. Suitable temperature and clear climate conditions are the terms to gauge spring and autumn times as perfect seasons.

Shorter Tsum Valley Trek itineraries

The Tsum Valley trek itinerary is customizable as per the service and number of days. Trekkers can choose the short Tsum Valley trek itinerary when having a limited time. However, the itinerary of 9 Days Tsum Valley Trek excludes the upper Tsum. And the longer includes Upper Tsum Valley and also the Manaslu Circuit.
