Growing as the most popular trekking trail of the Annapurna region, the Mardi Himal Base Camp trek is relatively a newer destination. Despite an easy hike, the trail offers fantastic mountain views. The trail passes through the beautiful Gurung villages of Dhampus.  Trekkers can observe the closest view of Himchuli, Annapurna, and Mt. Machhapuchchre throughout the trail.

The Mardi Himal trip is a magnificent journey in the Annapurna area that rewards us with breathtaking views of snowy peaks, unique cultural villages, limitless and various types of culture, and enticing vistas of swiftly running rivers. The highlight of this walk is the forests and nature of the routes that broadcast mountain vistas.

The short 7 Days Mardi Himal trek takes you across magnificent and moderately modern cities. However, you can select a longer itinerary to experience serene villages in detail. The spectacular terrace farms, whitewater rivers, crystal clear waterfalls, thriving forests, and mountain enclaves to the ultimate destination till you reach the high viewpoint of Mardi Himal. During the trek, we are compensated with amazing views of the high and marvelous Himalayas, such as the Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, and Annapurna ranges.

Best time to go for a short Mardi Himal Trek

The Seven Days Mardi Himal Trek is available all year but is ideal during the dry season (Autumn), which runs from mid-September to May, and the pre-monsoon season (Spring), which runs from March to May. These are the greatest and most favorable months for hiking in the Himalayas of Nepal. The image is crystal clear of fresh snowy mountains with fantastic temps and nights are pretty cold normally temperatures go below freezing point during nights.

Transportation – How to get to the trailhead

The Mardi Trek begins with bus travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which takes around 6-7 hours. You have the option of flying to Pokhara (a 20-minute flight). The package also includes transportation to and from the trailhead/endpoint. At the first meeting in Kathmandu, we will have a trip briefing, followed by team introductions and luggage checks to ensure we have all we need.

Necessary equipment for Mardi Himal Trek – packing list

You must alter your attire, gear, and equipment based on the weather. Here is our checklist to help you select what to pack on the walk.

  • Winter hat, insulating hat, a hat with a broad brim, or a Sun hat or scarf for the head
  • Extra batteries for the headlight
  • Face\Sunscreen, UV-protective sunglasses
  • Face and body wipes, Lightweight gloves for the hands, Winter gloves that are heavyweight
  • Hiking shirts for the body, Long-sleeved shirts made of synthetic fiber
  • Hooded rain jacket, Fleece jacket
  • Lightweight cotton pants, T-Shirt (bring lightweight wool)
  • Polypropylene underwear
  • Down jacket, Sweater, Waterproof jacket, and pants
  • Previously used hiking boots
  • Thick wool socks in pairs
  • Backpack or daypack (Size depends on whether you take porter or not)
  • Thermal bottle, Water purification
  • Trekking pole, crampons for rainy and snowy trails
  • Sleeping bag (optional -15 degree bag is best in the high altitude trekking)
  • Pack Medium size drying towel, Toothbrush, Toilet paper, Toothpaste, Deodorant/ floss, Biodegradable bar soap
    Nail clippers, Small mirror, as toiletries
  • Carry Money, Watch, Cell phone, Camera as Personal accessories

    7 Days Mardi Himal Trekking - Detail Itinerary

    01

    Day 1: Arrival In Kathmandu

    A representative from Oriental Journeys will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport. You will be taken to a hotel for your night’s stay. You will have your first taste in Nepal in the evening.

    Day 2: Fly to Pokhara / drive to Kande, trek to Australian Camp

    You have the option to drive or fly to Pokhara. A short flight of approx 20 minutes takes you to Pokhara. Alternatively, you can drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara on a tourist coach that departs at 7 am. Take your packed breakfast for the drive/fly. The highway passes through the lovely places alongside the Trisuli River. It is a 6-7 hours drive to reach Pokhara. Drive to Kande as soon as you reach Pokhara. A short trek to hike up to the Austrian Camp popularly pronounced as Australian Camp (2060m). This is a fantastic viewpoint for the overnight.

    Day 3: Trek to Forest Camp

    Enjoy a beautiful sunrise view over the Himalayas in the morning then trek to forest camp. The trail follows the ridge up to Forest camp. On the way pass, Pothana, and Deurali. It is a pleasing hike through the rhododendron forest with a gradual uphill.

    Day 4: Trek to High Camp

    The day hike takes you to a higher altitude but a pleasing wood walk is fantastic. Witness the diverse vegetation and mountain views throughout the trail. Take your lunch at Low Camp along a stunning mountain views. The tree lines end after the Badal Danda.   Overnight at a lodge in High Camp.

    Day 5: Trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp

    Wake up before the dawn and head up to the Mardi Himal Base Camp for the sunrise view. Relatively, the trails are tougher but the local management committee has installed handrails at risky points. Carefully step in and enjoy your hike. The steep climb will take about 2 hrs to the ridge top which is marked as MBC (Mardi Himal Base Camp). However, the real base camp will take about another 2 hrs along the ridge. The view is amazing all along the ridge. While Mardi Himal and Mt Fishtail appear right above us, the view of Annapurna I, Gangapurna, and Annapurna III also appears at a distance.

    Day 6: Trek to Siding, Drive to Pokhara

    It will be a long downhill walk for the day. The trail climbs down continuously to the village of Siding. There is access to a motorable road at Siding. You will take a vehicle to reach Pokhara in the evening.

    Day 7: Drive to Kathmandu

    Drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway. It is again a 6-7 hours drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu. You will have time to enjoy souvenir shopping around the shops of Thamel.
