7 day Langtang valley trek begins with a 7 hours drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubenshi. 122km in total distance, it’s s not far to get to Syabrubenshi. Although shorter in distance, the trek is popular for its remoteness without having any luxurious transport services. Therefore, only the private jeep and local bus are the option to choose to travel to Langtang valley.

The bus departs from Machhapokhari, Kathmandu between 7-9 am every morning. The cost of a bus fare is $6 to $8 based on the facilities provided by different transportation companies. Getting into a local bus may give you trouble with congested seats and too many passengers. Although expensive, choosing a private jeep can avoid this situation. It will cost you  $150 for a group of 5-7  travelers.

The road condition from Kathmandu to Syabrubenshi varies from place to place. Some roads are pathetic and rough and some are very good but narrower. The driving route from Kathmandu to Trisuli is awesome with a good-pitched road. Once you reached Trisuli Bazar, the district headquarters of Nuwakot, the road becomes rough and bumpy. Driving would be unique for you since it takes you to the different kinds of roads within this short drive too.

Langtang Valley Trek Detailed 7  Days Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu (1,400m) to Syabru Besi (1,550m) – 7 to 8 hours

It’s the voyage to explore the uniqueness and you will start your voyage with a 7 hours soothing drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubenshi. As there are no luxurious transportation facilities, you will either have to take a local bus from Machhapokharai or hire a private jeep to Syabrubenshi.

Once you start your journey and the road climbs over the ridge, it starts offering the majestic views of mountains including Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Himal, and Annapurna Himal through the window.  The highway is rocky and rough with potholes and small ditches on the way. The road from Kathmandu to Trisuli is cool and the rest of the others is off-road with rock and mud.

You will be driving alongside the Trisuli river for half of the tour. Once you reached Trisuli, the road takes you toward Dhunche, the administrative center of Rasuwa. At the park gate after Dhunche, you have to show your TIMS card and trek permit, therefore, make sure that you have those in handy. After an hour’s drive downhill from town, you will reach Syabrubenshi. Overnight stay at Syabrubenshi.

Day 2: Trek from Syabru Besi (1,550m) to Lama Hotel (2,380m) – 6 to 7 hours

Your actual trek starts from Syabrubenshi today. Once you cross the bridge over the Ying Yang River, the trail ascends and descends through the dense subtropical forest. Then the trails follow you alongside the Langtang Khola. When you move ahead, oak and rhododendron trees welcome you. When you are walking in the woods, the group of langur Monkeys would be the first encounter. Then the trail goes steep and slightly strenuous through the forest up to Lama Hotel. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Day 3: Trek from Lama Hotel (2,380m) to Mundu (3,430m) via Langtang Village – 6 to 7 hours

Today, the trekking trail takes you through the forest. You will enjoy plenty of waterfalls and occasional views of Langtang Lirung. From Ghoda Tabela, the trekking trail consists of woodlands. This trail takes you toward the lush green meadow. The snow-capped peaks of the Langtang range are the beautiful attraction of today’s trek.

Once the trail follows the uphill trail, you will get to a temporary settlement of Langtang Village. This was one of the busy settlements with many tea houses before the 2015 earthquake. But now, we did not get many tea houses in Langtang village and but they are in the process of emerging now. After half an hour walk ahead takes you toward Mundu village. Overnight stay at Mundu.

Day 4: Trek from Mundu (3,430m) to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) – 3 hour

Langtang Valley Trek - Kyanjin Village

An adventurous journey to Langtang is still in process. Today, you will get the water mills, Chortens, prayer flags, and carved inscriptions when you are gradually walking on the trails. The route further heads upwards and takes you to a beautiful yak pasture. It also offers the most visible and extensive views of the mountains. After crossing moraines and small streams, you will get to Kanjin Gompa. After three hours of walking in total, you will get Kyanjin Gompa by lunchtime. If you wish, you can head towards Langshisha Kharka for the incredible views of the mountains. overnight stay at Kyanjin Gompa and experience the uniqueness of culture and tradition.

Day 5: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) to Lama Hotel (2,380m) – 6 to 7 hours

Today, you will retrace back to the same route from Kyanjin Gompa to the Lama hotel. The trails take you alongside the Langtang River via Mundu village and finally leave you at Ghoda  Tabela. You have to walk carefully since you have mostly the downhill trail throughout the day. From Ghoda  Tabela too,  you still have a steep downhill up to Lama Hotel.

Day 6: Trek from Lama Hotel (2,380m) to Syabru Besi (1,550m) – 6 to 7 hours

Trek back to Syabru Besi, either hike through Sherpa Gaon or retrace the same trail from Rimche. Sherpa Gaon is a beautiful village with a couple of houses, farms, and trekking lodges. Situate at the top of the cliff, the village is a perfect rest place. No traveler will regret being in the village. The trail includes uphill, downhill, and flat hiking to the top of Khanjim village. The trail is direct downhill to Syabrubensi from Khanjim. In the evening have a relaxing dinner at Syabrubensi.

Day 7: Drive from Syabru Besi (1,550m) to Kathmandu (1,400m) – 8 to 10 hours

Wake up early morning to catch the local bus or Jeep to Kathmandu. Drive a full day to get back to Kathmandu.

Best Season

7 Days Langtang Valley trek guide helps you to choose the right season for the trek. The trek can be possible around the year. However, the monsoon rain sometimes interrupts the lower section of the Langtang Valley’s trip to landslides. Besides, the distressing leech catches the trekkers, and very few travelers hike during the monsoon. Otherwise, the main season of Spring (March to May) and Autumn season (September to November) are the best time to trek the region.

Moderate temperature, clear skies, and enough greeneries are the wonderful aspects of the Autumn hike. Since both Autumn and Spring are the peak trekking seasons in Nepal, you may encounter relatively high traffic on the trail.

The spring days are relatively warmer but the lower part might be hazy. But the high altitude has clear skies. The blooming Rhododendron forest, wildflowers, and colorful pastures beautify the entire surrounding during the day of April and May.

Instead, the winter brings cold and harsh weather at higher elevations. The piled-up snow disrupts the hiking trail. You might have to check the weather forecast and pack extra to ensure personal safety during the winter trek.

Entry & Permits

Trekking Langtang valley requires Langtang National Park Permit (NRs equivalent to US$34) and TIMS Card (US$10) for foreign nationals. Whereas the visitors from SAARC countries cost NRs equivalent to US$15 and US$3 respectively. You can get the National Park entry permit at the checkpoint nearby Dhunche or in Kathmandu. The TIMS Card is available at the TIMS counter at Thamel, Bhrikutimanda, and Maligaon of Kathmandu. The trekking tour operators arrange the necessary document for their package clients.

Accommodation

Lodges of Kyanjin Gomba

The trekking to Langtang Valley is lodge-to-lodge trekking. Hence we put it under the teahouse trek category. Syabrubensi is the trailhead to begin the Langtang Valley trek. Syabrubensi has better lodges compared to the lodges on the trail. You may get rooms with an attached bathroom, free wifi, and hot shower facilities at the lodges of Syabrubensi. Whereas the lodges on the trail are of a basic standard. The rooms are warm but use common toilets. Rooms are twin-sharing, provided with a warm mattress, a pillow, and blankets. You may carry your own sleeping bags to ensure more warmth during the night. The lodges have their own cozy and small restaurants. You are expected to eat your dinner and breakfast where you stay overnight. The food menu contains similar items to order throughout the trial.
